Our Approach
A phased program, built for responsible progress
Fremantle Lake runs a staged exploration program in which every phase improves our models with real data.
The program
How does our exploration program work?
Seven steps take a prospect from a promising idea to energy production.
- 01
Model and target
Subsurface models and geochemistry testing, the chemical fingerprinting of rock and fluids, point us to the ground most likely to generate hydrogen.
- 02
Secure the ground
We lease mineral rights, the rights to resources beneath the surface, where the geology looks most promising.
- 03
Acquire geoscience data
We collect relevant geoscience data from the field to help us understand the subsurface.
- 04
Drill to confirm
An exploration well brings geothermal fluids to the surface and gathers the data that models alone cannot provide.
- 05
Analyze with partners
World-class laboratory partners analyze the field data so our interpretation rests on rigorous science.
- 06
Pilot in the field
A pilot program verifies the models against real production before any commitment to scale.
- 07
Produce at scale
With the resource confirmed, we move toward commercial production of clean hydrogen to the surface.
Schematic depth, not to scale.
What we do
The work behind each phase
Subsurface Data Collection
We evaluate what data is required every step of the way to build subsurface models.
Scientific Analysis and Resource Evaluation
We work with leading laboratories, consultants and service companies to rigorously test and evaluate the project.
Phased exploration program
We have clear objectives for each stage of the program and progress work in a responsible manner.
Stakeholder engagement
We are proactive in engaging with stakeholders and welcome the opportunity to provide updates to the state agencies and local community.
What sets us apart
Why target deep, hot rock?
Our edge is where we look. By targeting deep, hot, iron-rich rock, we aim for faster natural reactions and a stronger path to commercial production.
| Attribute | Our approachFremantle Lake | Other shallow, cool-rock approaches |
|---|---|---|
| Geology | Deep, hot, iron-rich target rock | Shallow, cooler iron-rich rock |
| Geologic risk | Lower | Medium |
| Generation rate | High | Low |
| Geographic reach | Extensive | Extensive |
| Engineering optimization | High | Medium |
| Path to commercial flow | Strong | Low |
Comparison reflects Fremantle Lake’s positioning of exploration strategies. See the science behind geologic hydrogen for the reasoning.
